SZIRCZENKO (Shirchenko), Mykola – Passed into the arms of his heavenly Father on October 25, 2012 at 4:29 am at St Michael’s Hospital in Toronto. Mykola, Nick to his friends, lived 91 years, full of grace and gratitude and was looking forward to reuniting with “mine sweetheart”, Efrosyna his wife, and his son Nicholas. He is survived by 5 of his 6 children: Leonard and his daughter Natasha Mills; Walter; Nick’s wife Hedy and their daughter Anastasia; Olga and her husband Michael Spino and their children Tiffany and her husband Ian Furtado, Kristin and her husband Joseph Mauceri and their son, Dante, Danielle and her husband Ryan Jeffery and their son Patrick; Michael and his wife Diane and their children, Judy and her husband Mark Watson and their children Melissa, Jenna and Brianna, Christopher and his wife Erica, Angela and her husband Matthew Varsava and their children Hailee and Victoria; and Nicholas and his wife Stephanie and their children Addison and Olivia; and Vera and her husband Gary Kingsley, and their children, Nathan and Anisa and her husband Casey Darnell and their children Ava and Rosalin.
Nick passed away in accordance with how he lived his life, in complete surrender to his loving Saviour. His family takes comfort in knowing that his journey to wholeness was met with peace and without pain. Born in the Ukraine in 1921, and enduring the hardships of an oppressive communist nation and then enduring life as a prisoner of war in Germany, he immigrated to Canada in 1950. His dream to find an opportunity for happiness with his family in Canada was realized through hard work, personal sacrifice and a singular commitment to God. He will be missed immensely, not only by his family, but also by the many who loved to call him “Tatko” (Daddy) and “Gido” (Grandpa). He inspired all who knew him to live a God-honouring life.
Viewing will be on Monday, October 29, at 2-4 and 7-9 PM at COURTICE FUNERAL CHAPEL, 1587 Highway #2, (905) 432 – 8484.
