With great sadness we announce the passing of Ruth peacefully with family at her side on September 27, 2019 at Lakeridge Health Bowmanville; In her 85th year. The beloved wife of 56 years to the late Donald. Loving mother of David (Lisa), Joanne (Peter), and Tina. Cherished grandmother to Aaron (Leah), Ryan, Alexander, and Christopher. She is survived by her sister-in-law Barbara (Joseph), and brother-in-law Graham (late Irene). She will be missed by her many nieces and nephews in both Canada and United Kingdom. Ruth was born January 18, 1934 in Danby Wiske, Northallerton, England to the late John and Alice Craggs. Ruth was the last surviving and the youngest of 7 siblings; the late Harry, Raymond (Beaty), Mary, Annie, Margaret (Len) and Alice. She was also sister-in-law to the late Alan. She completed her nursing degree with honors at Friarage Hospital Northallerton, marrying Donald in 1955. She immigrated to Canada in 1957, living in Toronto, Georgetown, Brampton, Burlington, Oshawa, Millbrook and Courtice, Ontario. She would continue to work as a registered nurse until 1988 only to take a break to care for her children. From then on she was a dedicated grandmother spending countless moments with her children and grandchildren, and being a loving, caring wife to her husband. It brought her great pleasure to spend quality time with family and friends. Travels with her husband and children took her to Hawaii, Myrtle Beach, England, all across Canada and to many places in the USA. In her later life she was an active member of the Bowmanville Older Adults Association, well known for her love of playing cards. A visitation will occur at COURTICE FUNERAL CHAPEL, 1587 Highway#2, Courtice (905-432-8484) on Friday, October 4, 2019 from 2-4 pm and 6-8 pm, Funeral Service will take place on Saturday, October 5, 2019 at 1:00 pm. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations to the Bowmanville Older Adults Association or GBS/CIDP Foundation of Canada.
