Tom Johannes Sluymers

February 7, 1948 - July 10, 2012

Loved and respected by all, Tom lived a very good life always surrounded by family and friends. He is survived by his childhood sweetheart and wife of 43 years, Beppy, his son Tyrone, his daughter Monique, his daughter-in-law Stephanie Rook, his and son-in-law Sandro Tuccinardi. Tom maintained a strong connection to Holland and visited his family often. He is survived by his mother Marie, sister Greet, brother Ger, good friend Jan, and all his nieces and nephews who send their love from the Netherlands. He is also survived by a very large GM family, too many to name, but they were like family to him. But the things most precious to Tom were his 4 grandchildren: Owen, Tyson, Isabella and Hannah. In each of them a piece of Tom lives on. In Owen, that loveable character, the one that draws you in. In Tyson, his intelligence and problem solving. In Isabella, his fearlessness, there isn’t anything she won’t try. And in Hannah, his perseverance and determination. Tom also had a great love for his dogs, Casey and Cody. They will be lost without him. He had many friends, far too many to name, but we wanted to acknowledge a few for the support they showed him and our family during his fight against cancer. Rick McNab, Dan Parker, Albert Faustino, Juan Saez, Dr. Marcus, Dr. Cho, Dr. Burke, Danielle and his entire team of amazing nurses, Bev Rook and the countless others that dropped off meals, held his hand during the rough times, and just called or emailed for updates. Tom felt all your support and that provided him great comfort.

A Memorial service will held at Kedron Dells golf course on Sunday, July 15th from 1-4pm. This will be a time to remember Tom, meet his family, share stories and reflect about a remarkable man who lived a great life and was taken from us far too soon.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to support others battling cancer. This illness robbed Tom of his retirement, and his grandkids of their Opa. Any support you can provide to others going through this would mean a great deal to Tom.
