Lois Louise Wilcox was born in Riverside, Ca on Feb 21, 1925 to Ilene and Robert Middleton. She was the second to youngest child with three brothers, Harold, Howard and Donnie. She attended Riverside Polytechnic high school and graduated in June of 1942. She met her husband, Ruie L. Wilcox Jr., at a dance in high school. Lois was tall, slender and good looking. Ruie was lucky. Ruie joined the Marines and fought in World War II. While Ruie was overseas, Lois was a USO hostess. After the war, Lois and Ruie got married.
Lois and Ruie had two daughters, Lois and Lynda. Lois raised the girls while Ruie advanced in his career at California Electric Power Company (which later merged with Southern California Edison). Lois was an expert seamstress and enjoyed making clothing for herself and her daughters, including her daughter’s wedding dresses and bridesmaid’s dresses. She was also an excellent knitter, and has knitted more sweaters than her family can count!
Throughout their marriage, Lois and Ruie enjoyed dancing. They were so good at dancing that when they took the floor, people stepped aside and stood around them to watch. They could dance to all types of music, but were especially good at swing dancing.
After Ruie retired, Lois and Ruie enjoyed traveling and taking cruises. They had active social lives and kept in touch with their friends from high school, meeting together on a regular basis and even attending their 40th reunion. They also made friends everywhere they went and continue to have strong friendships with all of their neighbors.
Ruie and Lois have four grandchildren and five great grandchildren.
Lois passed away peacefully in her home surrounded by her loved ones at the age of 87. She will be remembered as a loving mother, wife, grandmother and great grandmother.
