With a heavy heart our family would like to announce the passing of our father, Albert Voohries Federico, on October 23, 2025, at the age of 85. Our father was born on February 7, 1940, in New Orleans, Louisiana to Frank J. Federico and Mildred MJ Voorhies.
Our father was an artist on Jackson Square in the French Quarter for 60 years. He began very young when his mother gave him some paper and a pencil to keep quiet, sparking his interest in the arts! He majored in art at LSU where he painted portraits to pay his way through school. At this time his brother Frank helped to get him acquainted with some of the artists on Jackson Square, learning the rules governing the spots “First Come First Serve”. He was out there every weekend, making a place for himself in the Quarter. His paintings encompassed beautiful French Quarter scenery, plantations, swamps, jazz scenes, portraits and fictional characters for his grandchildren later in life. Our father was always humble about his work no matter his achievements. During the week he taught art to the students at Ecole Classique, touching upon the lives of many of those students, many who still admire and respect him. Our father not only spent the weekends in the Quarter but also spent time after teaching during the week in his studio painting. Although he was busy, he never once made us feel like he did not have time to talk to us. It was here, where he would dispense grounded philosophy and advice whether it was about dating, work, religion or politics. He thoroughly enjoyed engaging in these conversations, especially as we got older. Whether he agreed or disagreed, he always maintained a level perspective. Our father was a devout Catholic who always enjoyed the simplest things in life such as a nice glass of scotch, listening to the song of a bird, having that one silent moment to view a deer, the sight of snow falling, watching a good western or an old musical, and being with family and having a hardy laugh that brought him to tears. He enjoyed cooking and was world famous for his stuffed artichoke and Bruscioloni, which incidentally, were the same recipe.
Our father especially loved my mother, his beloved wife Esperanza Federico. They were married for 59 years, and it gave him great joy to hear her laugh.
Our father will be missed dearly by his three children Andrea Federico, Bryan Federico wife Ashley Federico, Monique Blount husband David Blount; and grandchildren Gabriella Federico, Samuel Perilloux, Jacquelyn Federico, Madison Federico, Maxwell Parker Federico, Mason James Blount, and Nathan John Blount, and great grandchild Layne Kevin Davis.
Family was very important to our father. He spoke of many stories of his family growing up. He met my mother through his older brother Frank Federico. Our father and his brother shared the love of art and laughter, and he always would mention how his sisters Yvonne Flores, Nora Federico Hanford, and Marie Federico were like mother hens to him because he was the youngest. He is survived by his sister Nora Federico Hanford and numerous nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by parents Frank and Mildred Federico, his sister Yvonne Flores, his sister Marie Federico, and his brother Frank Federico.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend the funeral services beginning at 12:00PM at Grace Funeral Home, 450 Holy Trinity Drive, Covington, LA 70433 on November 15, 2025, with visitation beginning at 10:00 AM.
Burial will follow the services in St. Lazarus of Bethany Memorial Garden Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in memory of Albert V. Federico may be made to a Cancer charity of your choice.
