On Saturday, October 22, 2022, Benita left us for heaven doing what she did best, being a good friend. She was born and raised Catholic in Singapore. Going through an education system ranked as one of the best in the world was no easy feat. Benita worked hard. Not only did she pull herself up by her own bootstraps, but she did so while taking up additional leadership responsibility at school. Her busy schedule did not prevent her from carving time out for her family and friends, making lifelong friendships through her boundless generosity and kindness.
She came to the US for education starting in California and eventually moving to Texas. In college, she earned an Honors Bachelor’s and Master’s degree in Business from the University of Texas at Arlington. During this time, she shared her warmth, laughter, and wit over countless gatherings, weekends, and trips that created lasting memories. Benita was a rock to many and made immeasurable contributions towards making everyone’s life better.
Upon graduation, she married Kenneth, and they started a new life together in Houston. Over her career, she worked for many companies where she effortlessly took on new responsibilities and grew into a management role. Her favorite was ExpressJet Airlines because she loved to travel. Trips were planned in Excel. Due to the nature of standby flying as an airline employee, sometimes the destination was only decided at the airport, but that only added to the adventure for her. If you traveled with her, you didn’t rest. It didn’t matter if you were sick or tired, you were going.
After helping to put her brother through college, she blessed this world with two beautiful boys and focused on building a great life for them in Houston and in Louisiana where she moved to support Kenneth in his career progression. Regardless of the city she lived in, she was quick to build close friendships with neighbors, get involved in community activities, and throw parties. If you attended one of her events, you were guaranteed to leave with more food and gifts than you brought.
Benita was as generous to strangers as she was to friends and family. She always had cash in the car to give the homeless or would buy extra food at a drive through for them. This compassion was instilled in her as a child by her Godmother in Indonesia who gave out food to those in need. In lieu of flowers, please donate to your local food bank as she did.
Benita is survived by her loving husband Kenneth Carper and her cherished sons, Benjamin and Theodore, whom she loved and adored beyond words. She will be dearly missed by her mother Carolyn Yeo, father John Yeo, and brother Benedict Yeo. And she will remain forever in the hearts and minds of her extended family as well as the countless friends and colleagues that she leaves behind.
A visitation for Benita will be held Wednesday, November 2, 2022 from 10:30 AM to 12:00 PM at Mary Queen of Peace Catholic Church, 1501 W Causeway Approach, Mandeville, LA 70471, followed by a funeral mass at 12:00 PM.
A graveside service will be held Saturday, November 5, 2022 at 1pm at Forest Park East Cemetery, 21620 Gulf Fwy, Webster, TX 77598, followed by a memorial reception.
Fond memories and expressions of sympathy may be shared at www.gracenorthshore.com for the Carper family.
