Bridgett was born in San Diego, CA to the late Willie and Bobbie Braswell. The family moved to Jackson, MS, when she was a young child, and later to New Orleans, where she graduated from Ben Franklin High. Bridgett attended Millsaps College where she joined Phi Mu sorority. In 1983, she married Mark deGruy, and they soon made their life together in Mandeville, LA, near both of their families.
Two of her passions were doll collecting and figure skating, both of which she shared with her dear Mother. Bridgett was also an avid music fan and loved all animals. She spent 16 years with her beloved rescue pup, Dolly, by her side.
She was known by all for her kindness and thoughtfulness. Bridgett also had a wonderfully creative sense of humor, often bringing the room to tears of laughter with her long running comedic bits. After a most heroic health battle, spanning more than 15 years, Bridgett left this world peacefully.
Bridgett was preceded in death by her parents and her brother, Terry Braswell. She is survived by her husband Mark deGruy, sister, Shirley Waring, sister in law, Claudia Voulgarakis, nieces, Teri Nesbitt (Ted), Pati Williams (Bryan), Sofia Hackett (Geoff), and 9 grand nieces and nephews.
Her joyful presence and gentle nature will be missed by all who were privileged to know her. Bridgett exuded love for others until her final moments and she would want everyone to remember that.
A Visitation will be held for Bridgett at Grace Funeral Home on Friday, August 28, 2026 beginning at 12:00PM and lasting until Service time at 1:30PM. Bridgett will then be laid to rest at St. Lazarus of Bethany Memorial Garden.
