Brooklyn Kate Fitzgerald passed away peacefully on Tuesday afternoon, January 7, 2020 after a courageous battle with cancer. She was 29 years old. Brooklyn was an avid Saints and LSU fan. She loved to fish and hunt, and loved working with children. She was a special angel given to everyone who came in contact with her, and touched many lives during her time on Earth. She was the loving daughter of Shannon Fitzgerald (Jerry Ruiz), and granddaughter of Dr. Sharon Guepet and Timothy Fitzgerald Sr. (Joycelyn). Sister of Madelyn (Josh), Ashlyn, and Jaxson. Niece of Timothy Fitzgerald Jr. (Michelle), Michelle Schlaudecker (Ray), and Michael Walters (Brandy), and many great-aunts, great-uncles, and cousins. A special appreciation to Daren Bowden, Patricia Jarrell, Beth Warren, and Lisa Young, as well as the support and care of the nurses and doctors at Ochsner Foundation Hospital, the staff at J.F. Gauthier Elementary, and many other relatives and friends. In lieu of flowers, contributions in Brooklyn’s memory may be made to St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital or M. D. Anderson Cancer Center. Relatives and friends of the family are invited to attend a Memorial Mass to celebrate her life at GRACE FUNERAL HOME, 450 Holy Trinity Drive, Covington, on Sunday afternoon, January 12, 2020 at 2:30. Visitation will begin at 12:30, and a short reception will follow Mass. Saints and LSU attire is suggested. An online guestbook is available at www.gracenorthshore.com.

Sharon and Shannon,
I can't imagine your pain, but I do know that you both loved Brooklyn very much and made many sacrifices. Brooklyn touched many lives and her memory will live on with the many people she touched. Know of my prayers for you, as we know Brooklyn is in peace, it is the people left behind that hurt.
God Bless, Elba

Sharon & Shannon,

We were so sorry to hear about Brooklyn. She was such a sweet young lady and even thought we didn't get to see her often, we always enjoyed spending time with her. We know you are so proud of her courage. We pray that she rest in peace and that you find comfort in the many fond memories of her beautiful life.

Love,

Brooklyn, I remember picking you up not so long ago to come hang out with me at the house. I cooked you spaghetti and meat sauce, we colored, laughed, napped and caught up. You have been such a fighter my girl and I know you are at peace now. I know my mom went running for you at the pearly gates. You were her favorite but don’t tell the other cousins!!! We love you forever.
Love,
Steph

Brooklyn had my oldest baby in her kinder class. I was expecting at the time and bought we a sweet gift. Not only did she buy him a gift, but would come see him and hang out at the house with us. Sometimes we got the opportunity to bring her to school/work when Dr G took the day off. My family loved Brooklyn!!!

Brooklyn came into our lives as a young child and gave us so many laughs and memories to cherish a lifetime. She taught me that no matter what life throws at you keep pushing forward. She was a Warrior! You are now an Angel in Heaven. Fly high Brooklyn! We will make sure your memory lives on. Love you always Maw Maw Alba, Aunt Alva and Catelinn.

Shannon...
Sometimes, the first time you meet a person, something happens that "sticks" with you. It was that way the day i met Brooklyn. I knew that Brooklyn was a person who celebrated life. I've never forgotten that about her.

Brooklyn was always willing to help, or just spend time with you, if she thought you were lonely or unhappy. One day, I was alone in my classroom cutting out patterns and Brooklyn came in to help. By the time the kids came in from recess, we were finished the patterns and giggling at jokes and silliness we were sharing with each other. You could never leave Brooklyn without a smile on your face. Brooklyn always filled my heart with joy. I will miss her sweet spirit.

Brooklyn, my dancing partner, laughing friend, you brought happiness to everyone you was around, remembering you sitting on my lap , sliding your hands in side the sleeves of my blouse , because you was cold and patting the soft skin on my arm and laughing, what's this, fat I said and you laughed, you love music and enjoyed coming out with Pops and Nana to the "clubs" dancing and the parades with some of the family....always, always so strong, positive and very funny.... your beautiful smile and twinkles in your eyes is going to be missed but you will always be remembered with love, fun and giving...giving all the positive vibes you sent and giving us strength to go on, no matter what <3 <3 <3 you had so much love to give to all..I know you and all the family is dancing in Heaven ……..enjoy my sweet Angel <3
