Candy Marie Rogers Fitch, 76, of Mandeville, passed away at her home on Tuesday, March 10, 2026, surrounded by her loving family. She was born in New Orleans to the late Oliver “O.C.” Rogers Jr & Evensia “Yvonne” Danos Rogers. She is preceded in death by her parents.
Candy grew up in Marrero and graduated from Immaculata High School in 1967. She attended Nicholls State University, and it was there she met her husband, Tom. They were together for over a year and got married on June 7, 1969 at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Marrero. Together they lived in Marrero, had their first child, Patrick, and stayed there until 1974 when they moved to Lafayette for Tom’s work. While in Lafayette, Candy started working for St. Edmond Catholic Church, coordinating religious education classes and in 1977, had their second child, Julie. Together, the family moved to Houma in 1985, and later settled in Mandeville in 1991, where Candy continued her work in religious education at Mary Queen of Peace Catholic Church.
Candy was an active member and volunteer at Mary Queen of Peace, where she also served as a eucharistic minister. Candy was a member of the Catholic Daughters, and she also helped and volunteered at the Samaritan Center in Mandeville for over 34 years. In 2009, Candy received The Order of St Louis award in recognition of her leadership and dedication to her Church and community. Her faith and trust in God was strong and it sustained her throughout her life, especially at the end.
Candy was a beautiful soul. She was a strong and empathetic woman, and a caring and devoted wife, mother, aunt, and sister. Candy was also a devoted friend, always there to lend a helping hand to those in need. She enjoyed spending time with her large group of friends and family, especially her niece Lisa Sheffield, and Lisa’s husband, Bill. Candy had a green thumb and spent hours tending her plants and yard. She loved shopping and eating at her favorite restaurants. Candy’s legacy will live on in all of us, and she will be remembered by all who knew and loved her dearly.
Candy is survived by her loving husband of 56 years, Joseph T. “Tom” Fitch; children, Patrick Fitch (Sheryl Sage and children Haley and Connor), and Julie Fitch (Val McKay); brother, Ricky J. Rogers. Candy also leaves behind to cherish her memory a host of friends and extended family.
Visitation will be held on Wednesday, March 18, 2026 from 10:30am until 12:30pm at Mary Queen of Peace Catholic Church in Mandeville, directly followed by a funeral mass at 12:30pm. Internment services will be held privately.
