

Charles ‘CJ or Charlie’ Joseph Semel, 68 of Metairie, LA passed away on November 8, 2025, at his home. He was born on October 12, 1957 in New Orleans, LA to the late Alexander ‘AJ’ & Pauline Semel. Charles is preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Gerard ‘Jerry’ Semel, and Alexander ‘Larry’ Semel; Aunt and Uncle, Paul & Ginny Springers; and niece, Paula A. Semel.
For grade school, Charlie attended Our Lady of Good Council and spent the beginning of his high school years attending Holy Redeemer High School. Eventually transferring to Slidell High, he graduated in 1976. After graduation, Charlie started working at PATS Automotive but soon after, made a change and began his 31 year career at the Sewerage and Water Board of New Orleans. He began his career as a Maintenance Worker, then was promoted to Utility Plant Machinist and retired in 2007 after three decades with the company.
Charlie enjoyed working in his garage on various projects. He really loved taking care of his home and his yard; both were always kept immaculate. He took great pride in the care and attention to detail he spent on his home. Another passion of Charlie’s was learning and discussing history, geography and geology. He loved spending time in the outdoors and being on the water, and was an excellent water skier. Always active, he continued to skate, bike ride, and run. Charlie was one of a kind, always lending a hand and helping those in need. He was a loving and devoted companion, brother, and friend to so very many. His legacy lives on in all of us, and he will be missed by all who knew and loved him.
Charlie is survived by his fiancée, Angie Campise; brother, Glenn (Tammy) Semel; sister, Debra (John) Quinn; nieces & nephews, Glenn ‘Mike’ (Shanna) Semel; great nieces & nephews, Jorden Semel, and Madison ‘Maddie’ Semel; step children, Zachary ‘Zach’ (Christina ‘Nina’) Campise, Alexander ‘Alex’ Campise (Sarah Ryals); step grandchildren, Avery, Charlotte, Iris, Chloe, Violet, and Oliver. Sister’s-in-law Mary Semel and Beatriz Semel. Charlie also leaves behind to cherish his memory a host of friends.
Visitation will be held on Saturday, November 22, 2025 from 10:00 am until 12:00 pm at Grace Funeral Home (450 Holy Trinity Drive, Covington). Funeral Services will be held at 12:00 pm on Saturday, November 22, 2025 at Grace Funeral Home (450 Holy Trinity Drive, Covington).
