James William Bowie, of Covington, Louisiana, was called home to be with the Lord on September 7, 2025, at the age of 33 in a tragic accident. He was hit by a car while riding his bike and died instantly.
James was born on April 3, 1992, in Pensacola, Florida, and grew up in the Mandeville-Covington area. He was a devoted father to his beloved son, James Nathaniel Bowie, who was the light of his life.
James was dedicated at Pensacola Christian Church as a baby and accepted Jesus Christ as his Lord and Savior at the young age of 7. He was a leader and active in his youth group at Church of the King while in Junior High, graduated from Mandeville High School in 2010 and from LSU in 2016 with a Bachelor of Science degree in Kinesiology. He worked in insurance, hospitality, security, and commercial transportation.
James was a gifted athlete. He enjoyed wakeboarding, golf, strength training, snowboarding, skateboarding, and mountain biking. His greatest joy was spending time with his son, Nate, teaching him to play basketball and to swim. James approached life with courage, even as he faced struggles with addiction. We take comfort in knowing he is now at peace. On his last day, James shared his faith and hope in God, telling Nate: “Have Faith in God, seek peace, no matter what you are going through.”
He is survived by his son, James Nathaniel Bowie; parents, Dr. Roger Earl Bowie and Mrs. Deborah Bowie; sisters Elizabeth Kunath (Spencer) and Laura Lamar (Anthony), brother Roger Bowie, nieces Lucy, Eleanor, Vivienne; nephew, Lakenan; as well as many loving aunts, uncles, and cousins. He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. William Dugan, and Mr. and Mrs. James Bowie.
Services will be held on Saturday, September 13, 2025, at Grace Funeral Home & St. Lazarus of Bethany Memorial Garden, 450 Holy Trinity Drive, Covington, Louisiana. Visitation will take place at 10:00 a.m., followed by the Funeral Service at 11:00 a.m., with interment and a Reception to follow. The family invites all who knew and loved James to join in celebrating his life.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to support his son’s education through the James Nathaniel Bowie Benefit Account.
