James “Mike” Spain Jr, beloved father, brother, and friend, passed away on 12/15/25 at the age of 48. He is survived by his children, Addison Spain and James “Tre” Michael Spain III, and by his siblings Michelle Spain Coyne (Jerry) and Mark Spain (Leslie). He is also survived by his nieces and nephews — Joshua Martin, Brandon Talazac, Andrew “Drew” Talazac, and Kaelee Spain — along with many cousins and extended relatives who loved him dearly. He was preceded in death by his parents, the late James Spain Sr. and the late Donna Zimmer Spain.
Born and raised in Marrero, Louisiana, he attended Archbishop Shaw High School, where he began building the foundation of lifelong friendships and unforgettable stories.
He grew into a man whose heart was as generous as his personality was vibrant. He lived life with a heart of gold and a presence you couldn’t ignore — partly because he was always laughing, telling a story, or insisting that this would finally be the season he got “the big one.”
A dedicated professional, he built a long and respected career as a Construction Manager with MasTec, where he worked for over 16 years. His strong work ethic, problem-solving nature, and ability to connect with anyone he met earned him the admiration and respect of colleagues across the industry.
An avid outdoorsman, he found joy and peace in hunting and fishing. Whether he was waiting quietly in the woods or casting a line before sunrise, he was in his element — even if his tales of “trophy hunts” sometimes grew a little bigger with each retelling.
His warmth, humor, and larger-than-life spirit left a mark on everyone fortunate enough to know him. He had a natural gift for lifting others up, making people feel valued, and bringing humor to even the hardest moments.
Throughout his life, he pursued his passions with enthusiasm and lived with authenticity and adventure. His stories, laughter, and the many memories he created will continue to bring comfort — and probably a few smiles — to those who loved him.
He will be deeply missed and forever remembered for the joy, generosity, and light he brought into the world.
Funeral services will be held at Grace Funeral Home, 450 Holy Trinity Road, Covington, LA. Family visitation will begin at 10:00 AM, followed by friends at 11:00 AM. The service will begin at 1:00 PM. A reception will be held at Michelle’s house following the service, where loved ones will gather to share stories, comfort one another, and continue celebrating his life.
