Jane Carter Greene, 82, formerly of Charlottesville, VA passed away on November 19, 2025 at her home in Mandeville, LA. She was born on October 5, 1943 in Rockbridge County, VA to the late Charles Robert Carter & Mary Virginia Crawford Carter. Jane is preceded in death by her parents; husband of 45 years John Greene; sister, Ila Buchanan; and brother Bobby Carter.
Jane was born and raised in Buena Vista, VA and attended Perry McCluer School. Jane and John were High School Sweethearts and married in January of 1961. Together they started raising their family in Buena Vista, VA, later moving to Charlottesville, VA in 1968 so that John could attend the University of Virginia. Jane worked at the University of Virginia Hospital for 30 years before her retirement in 1998. She moved to Louisiana in 2020 while battling cancer.
Jane was an avid reader who cherished the feel of a hardback in her hands, losing herself in the story for hours at a time. She was a skilled knitter and seamstress, creating the most beautiful items. She loved to cook and was always willing to try new recipes. Jane loved animals, especially her beloved dogs “Maggie” and “Lili”. She loved feeding the birds, squirrels, and deer in her backyard, enjoying their antics as they visited for a bite to eat. In her later years, Jane found a new passion in the game of golf. She was a loving and devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, sister and aunt. She had a very tender heart for those in need and was always lending a helping hand. Jane was feisty but you knew it came from the heart. Her legacy lives on in all of us, and she will be missed by all who knew and loved her.
Jane is survived by her children, Max Robert (Carol) Greene, Sandra Dale (Jim) Dombrowski; grandchildren; C. Max (Celene) Greene, Carter (Kori) Sakahashi, Matt (Maddison) Dombrowski, John Dombrowski, Aidan Greene, and Flora Greene; great grandchildren, Yaslyne Greene, Rosalyne Greene, Maximilian Greene, Charleigh Sakahashi, Kamryn Sakahashi, Anna James Dombrowski, and Cooper Dombrowski; sister Joyce (Russell) Williams. Jane also leaves behind to cherish her memory a host of nieces, nephews, friends, and extended family.
