Kathleen (Kathy) Shubert Brown, a devoted wife, loving mother, proud grandmother, and cherished member of her community, passed away peacefully on May 2, 2025, at the age of 72, surrounded by her beloved family.
A native of New Orleans East, Kathy grew up on Wales and Shubert Streets, in a neighborhood rich with the presence of multiple generations of her close-knit family. As a teenager, she moved with her parents and siblings to their cherished family estate, Shady Oaks Farm—a place she would call home for the rest of her life. There, surrounded by loved ones, Kathy’s deep-rooted values of family, connection, and togetherness continued to blossom. It’s no exaggeration to say that her early years helped shape the foundation for what she treasured most: her family.
A proud graduate of Saint Joseph’s Academy, Kathy carried with her a strong sense of faith and compassion that guided her throughout her life. From 1985 to 1993, she served as both a softball coach and secretary of the Abita Recreation Center, mentoring young athletes and playing a vital role in strengthening the spirit of her community. Her dedication extended into her professional life as well—she built a successful career in the oil and gas industry, where she worked diligently for over 20 years.
Kathy was a lifelong lover of sports, with a special passion for baseball that she proudly passed on to her children and grandchildren. Whether she was playing defense in left field, cheering from the stands, watching a game at home, or coaching the next generation, she found joy in the energy, discipline, and heart of the sport. Her knowledge of the game was matched only by her enthusiasm, and she could always be counted on to know the score, the players, and the next big play. For Kathy, baseball wasn’t just entertainment—it was a way to connect with her loved ones, celebrate teamwork, and stay close to the community she adored.
She also had a deep love of travel, which she and her husband shared with their children and extended family throughout the years. Some of her most cherished memories were made on family trips, especially those taken with her beloved parents, to whom she remained devoted all her life.
As you can see, family was the center of Kathy’s world. She found her greatest joy in loving and being loved by her husband, watching her children and grandchildren grow, celebrating every milestone and achievement along the way. Whether it was a ball game, competition, or recital, she was always there—offering her unwavering support, her warm smile, and her boundless love. Her legacy of kindness, strength, and devotion lives on through the family she cherished so deeply.
She is survived by her loving husband of 47 years, Melvin, and their three daughters: Angela Collins(Charles “Coo”), Elizabeth Green (Kirk Daniel), and Emily Kelly (Brandon). She also leaves behind her grandchildren: Darcey Callicott (Marshall), Lauren, Stephen (Loren), Charley, McKenna, Kaylee, Liliana, and Brielle.
Kathy is also survived by her sisters, Diane Cox (David) and Linda Shubert; her nephew, Roy Joseph Shubert IV (Chrystie); her nieces, LaToya Montgomery(Jonathan), Davina Ordoyne (Elwin), and Patricia Gill(Sean); and many more extended family members and dear friends whose lives she touched deeply.
She is preceded in death by her beloved parents, Roy Joseph Jr. and Virgie Mae Shubert, and her brother, Roy Joseph Shubert III, who now joyfully welcome her home.
