

Lawrence Joseph “L.J.” McEvoy, Jr., age 88, of Covington, LA passed away on October 16, 2025. He was born on July 3, 1937, in New Orleans, LA to Lawrence Joseph McEvoy, Sr. and Louise Gueringer McEvoy.
L.J. is survived by his wife of 66 years, Bette Ann Bernard McEvoy and five children: Mark Edward, Robin Elizabeth, Patti Ann Campbell (her husband Eric), Stephen Michael (his wife Colleen), and Kelly Louise Battle (her husband Paul). He is also survived by 14 grandchildren and 27 great grandchildren.
L.J. is preceded in death by his parents and his sister, Joan M. Pfister.
L.J. graduated from St. Aloysius in 1956 and completed one year at Southeastern Louisiana College. He was in the U.S. Naval Air Reserve and received an honorable discharge in 1963. L.J. served during the Cuban Missile Crisis in 1961 in the Naval Air Antisubmarine Squadron. He was a Veteran of Foreign Wars.
L.J. worked for Standard Supply and Hardware for several years and married his wife, Bette, on October 10, 1959. He was employed at Shell Oil Company in the exploration department until he went into business for himself. He was the owner and operator of eight service stations and was a distributor for the Amoco Oil Company.
He and Bette were blessed to have the opportunity to do lots of traveling in and out of the country.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend the memorial service at Grace Funeral Home, 450 Holy Trinity Drive, Covington, LA 70433 on Thursday, October 23, 2025, at 12:00 p.m. with visitation on Thursday beginning at 10:00 a.m.
Burial will follow the services in St. Lazarus of Bethany Memorial Garden Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in memory of L.J. may be made to St. Timothy on the Northshore/Samantha’s Playground, 335 Asbury Drive, Mandeville, LA 70471.
