

Mariette was born in McComb, Mississippi on April 08, 1930 to Ernest Breeland and Grace Eva Toney. She graduated from Amite High School in 1946 and entered the workforce, at the age of 16, as a Telegraph Operator and Office Manager for Western Union in Amite, Louisiana. Mariette and her first husband, Mack Carey Errington Jr., had two children; Susan Mignonne and Michael Ernest. Mariette began working for the U.S. Department of Defense in 1955. She went on to work for the U.S. Department of Agriculture in 1963. In 1968 she transferred to the Department of Treasury U.S. Customs, which she would retire as the Assistant Deputy Regional Commissioner, U.S. Customs Service, New Orleans, Louisiana in June of 1988 - giving 33 years of service to the U.S. Government.
After retirement Mariette and her husband, Hollis B. Tara, spent many years traveling to other countries, touring the United States with their grandchildren, and going on many adventures. Mariette loved to read, do crossword puzzles, photography, crochet, knit, and basket weave. She gave 10 years of volunteer service to the Hospice Foundation of the South, Slidell, Louisiana.
Mariette is preceded in death by her husband Hollis Tara, son Michael Errington, and grandsons Glenn A. Serpas Jr. and Brian F. Serpas. Her parents, Ernest Breeland and Grace Eva Breeland. Her sisters, Barbara Bates, Bette Rogyom and Ernie Breeland. And her second husband, Gustave Landwehr, Jr.
Mariette is survived by her daughter Susan Schaefer (Patrick), granddaughter Jennifer Bonham (Max), and 2 great granddaughters, Lorelei and Alexis. She is also survived by nieces and nephews, and other family and friends.
A graveside service will be held at a later date at the Biloxi National Cemetery, Biloxi, Mississippi.
