Mary Matto Gereighty, age 95, passed away on September 7, 2026, in Lafayette, LA. Born on April 7, 1931, Mary lived a life marked by devotion to her family and active participation in her community. Mary brought an unmatched energy, laughter, and enthusiasm to everyone she met.
She was a beloved member of Most Holy Trinity Catholic Church, where her faith and fellowship were central to her life. She was also an enthusiastic participant in various senior and card groups, enjoying the camaraderie and challenge they offered.
She is survived by her loving children, Tricia Gereighty Hunt (Michael) and John Andrew Gereighty III (Stephanie) and son in law Terry Knepper, as well as her cherished grandchildren, Rebecca DiMarco (Daniel), Grace Hunt (Wyatt), Riley Knepper, Brennan Knepper (Janet), Claire Hunt (Brian), Caroline Knepper (Pedro) and great grandchild baby Knepper. Mary was preceded in death by her husband, John Andrew Gereighty Jr., and her daughter, Mary Gereighty Knepper.
Services to honor Mary's life will be held at Grace Funeral Home on September 23 from 5 pm to 7 pm and September 24 from 10:00 am to 11:30 am at Most Holy Trinity Church. A funeral mass will follow, with interment at Metairie Lake Lawn Cemetery.
