Myra is survived by her children James G. Wingerter Jr. (Michelle), Louis P. Wingerter (Terry), and Jane W. Haynie (Phillip); her grandchildren Claire Wingerter Champagne (Zac), Jonathan Wingerter, Ashley Wingerter Whitman (Caleb), Heather Haynie, Braxton Haynie, Meredith Wingerter (Casey Ball), and Jamie Wingerter; and soon to arrive great-grandchild Blake Elizabeth Ball. She is also survived by her cousins whom she considered her brothers, John Gomila, Jr., Louis Gomila, Robert Gomila, and William Gomila, Sr., as well as a large extended family that will miss her dearly.
Myra is preceded in death by her beloved husband of 58 years, James Gomila Wingerter Sr., her parents, and her brother Harold Steppe.
Myra grew up in New Orleans near City Park. She graduated high school from Holy Angels Academy and received her Baccalaureate Degree from Loyola University in Education where she made life long friends. She taught in St. Bernard Parish and worked as a substitute teacher for many Catholic Schools in New Orleans East. Myra also worked in the family pharmacy, G&W Drugs. She additionally worked for the Medicine Shoppe Pharmacy in LaPlace as a Certified Pharmacy Technician. Myra was a dedicated wife and mother. While raising her family in New Orleans East she was an active member of Resurrection Catholic Church and school. Once moving to LaPlace, she was an active member of the choir at Saint Joan of Arc Catholic Church for many years. After moving to Covington, she and James were parishioners at St. Anselm Catholic Church in Madisonville.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend the Mass of Christian Burial, officiated by Fr. Frank Giroir, at Grace Funeral Home, 450 Holy Trinity Drive, Covington, LA 70433 on Saturday, May 25, 2024 at 12:00 PM with visitation beginning at 10:30 AM.
Burial will follow the services in the adjacent St. Lazarus of Bethany Memorial Garden, under the direction and care of Grace Funeral Home.
