

Paul Glenn Franklin, Captain, US Air Force (Retired), a veteran of the Vietnam War, passed away January 18, 2022, at the age of 88. He was born on November 12, 1933 to Paul and Vallie Franklin in Jefferson, TX. He was a graduate of Kirby High School in Woodville, TX. He earned his Bachelor of Science Degree from Sam Houston State University in Huntsville, Texas and later, a Master's Degree from the University of Southern Mississippi.
He enlisted in the USAF in 1952 and served for 4 years. He then received an honorable discharge and left the Air Force. He later entered Officer's Training School and eventually deployed to Thailand to serve in the Vietnam War. He received the Bronze Star for meritorious service 1968-1969 as a Tactical Weapons Controller, Weapons Assignment Officer and Senior Director, Detachment 4, 621st Tactical Control Squadron in Khao Khieo, Thailand. He served many tours stateside and abroad and retired as an officer in 1980.
Paul is preceded in death by his parents Paul and Vallie Franklin, and his son Clayton Collins Franklin.
He is survived by his wife, Shirley Franklin of Marlin, TX; daughter Paula J. Byrd (Joel) of Bogalusa, LA; daughter Maria Hicks Cooper (Mike) of Waco, TX; brother Mike Franklin (Brenda) of Waco, TX, sister Jenny Lou Rhoads of Ft. Worth, TX and three grandchildren: Sarah Beth Byrd, Garrett Cooper, and Allison Seale (Zac) as well as nieces, a nephew, and numerous great nieces and great nephews.
His family is planning a memorial service to honor Paul’s life and military service, which will be held over Memorial Day weekend in Waco, TX.
The Franklin family would like to thank the staff at St. Tammany Parish Hospital for the wonderful care they gave to Paul and the attention to his family. The Windsor Senior Living Facility will always hold a special place in our hearts for the love and compassion they showed to him.
