Richard Joseph Mathews, known to his loved ones as Rick, passed away on January 17, 2024, at the age of 63. He was born on January 23, 1960, in New Orleans, Louisiana, to his parents John Larry Mathews, Sr. and Elizabeth Joyce (Perrot) Mathews.
Rick will be dearly missed by his parents, his siblings John L. Mathews, Jr. (Karen), Lynn Wilkinson (Grant), Lori Gould (Robert), and David B. Mathews (Leslie), as well as numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his paternal grandparents, John Henry Mathews and Irma Ezelda (Carbo) Mathews, and his maternal grandparents, Charles Joseph Perrot and Elizabeth Steward Cortie.
Rick was raised in New Orleans and a resident of Lacombe for the past 13 years. He graduated from Marion Abramson High School. Rick proudly served in the Air National Guard, demonstrating his dedication and commitment to his country for over 20 years before retiring. Rick also had a successful career at United Parcel Service (UPS) before retiring after over 30 years.
Relative and friends are invited to celebrate Rick's life on Thursday, January 25, 2024, at St. John of the Cross, located at 61030 Brier Lake Dr., Lacombe, LA 70445. Visitation will begin at 9:30 AM, followed by a Mass, officiated by Fr. Tuan Pham, at 11:00 AM.
Rick will be laid to rest at Southeast Louisiana Veterans Cemetery at a later date.
