Richard Paul Theriot Sr. (known as “Alfred E” to some) passed away peacefully and surrounded by his loving family on Saturday, October 17, 2026, at the age of 80. Richard is survived by his doting wife of 56 years Carmen Hernandez Theriot, son Richard Paul Theriot Jr. (Karen), daughter Christine Theriot Russo (Rocky) and son David Michael Theriot (Lizzie). He is survived by six grandchildren: Christopher Theriot, Lily-Grace Theriot, Rocky Russo, Sophie Russo, David Theriot Jr., and Amelia Theriot, in addition to many family members and friends. Richard was the son of the late Adam William Theriot and Thelma Herbert Theriot and brother to the late Claudette Louise Theriot.
Richard spent his childhood summers at Patti Ann Cottage on Lake Catherine and grew up in New Orleans. He was a longtime resident of Metairie, and he and his family enjoyed 30 years of crabbing and swimming at the camp in Grand Isle before moving to Covington for the last 15 years of his life. He was a parishioner of St. Ann Catholic Church for 33 years and served as an usher for 10 of those. He was a salesman for over 30 years, during which time he never met a stranger. While he enjoyed fishing, hunting, and watching football games, he rarely missed a Monday night poker game. He taught multiple friends and family how to boil seafood and how to drive. His mischievous personality will be missed by many, especially his grandchildren to whom he would secretly funnel popsicles, candy, and money.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend the funeral service at Grace Funeral Home, 450 Holy Trinity Drive, Covington, LA 70433 on Tuesday, October 27th. Visitation will begin at 9 am followed by a Catholic Mass at 11 am. Interment will take place immediately after.
