Rudy was born on May 7, 1930 in Chicago, IL to Damaso and Marie (Cheval) Sutis. He served honorably in the United States Marine Corps for 30 years, receiving numerous honors including the Combat Action Ribbon and the Vietnam Service Medal, serving two tours of duty in the Vietnam War and was a Senior Drill Instructor at Parris Island from 1964-1966.

As a Veteran, he was a proud member of the VFW Post #3798, American Legion Post #0415, and was a charter member of the Marine Corps League - LCpl. Justin D. McLeese Detachment 1487. He served as the Commander of the American Legion Post #415 from 2015-2018.

A 32nd degree Mason and member of the Scottish Rite, Rudy was a member of Shriners International for over 50 years. He was also a pillar of the Asian American Community. Both Rudy and Emma have been active members and have served as officers in the Filipino American Lions Club, PWAL, United Counsel, Asian American Lions Club, and APAS. He was also a member of the Mandeville Lions Club.

We will all miss Rudy’s booming voice, his laughter, and his stories, most unfit for print. He was warm and kind, and he loved his family and his community. He was a man who led a life of adventure, and we are all fortunate to have shared that life with him.

Rudy is survived by his beloved wife of 70 years, Emma (Carbajosa) Sutis; his children Rudolph “Rudy” Sutis (Pamela), Laura Sutis Cressy (David), and Marc Sutis (Donna); nine grandchildren, eleven great-grandchildren, his grand-dog Max, and countless friends and brothers at arms.
