Born in New Orleans to Etienne and Inez Caire on August 14, 1945, Steve took great pride in his Edgard, LA roots. He enjoyed reminiscing & sharing memories with family, friends, and many others, and he always seemed to find a common connection with those he met. Steve joined the Army in 1963 as a Radar Technician, serving in Korea and later becoming an instructor at Aberdeen Proving Grounds in Maryland. After leaving the military, he managed Antoine’s Restaurant in New Orleans while attending (LS) UNO for his undergraduate degree where, in English class, he met his future wife, Susan DiLeo. They wed in June 1971 and shared 46 years of marriage before Sue lost her battle to cancer in March 2018. One of his proudest achievements was their five children, who he and Sue often traveled the country with, experiencing Disney, beautiful mountains, and countless other historical and scenic destinations.
While building his family with Sue, Steve attended Law School at Loyola University in New Orleans. As an attorney, he saw success at both state & federal levels and fearlessly represented family & friends without hesitation when help was needed. He would proudly state that he kept his bar credentials up to date “just in case.”
Between he and his four sisters, Betsy, Mag, Tez, and Elia, and his two brothers, Roddy and Vince, his passion for great food and a good story never left a dull moment. Well-read and knowledgeable, Steve could carry a conversation on a variety of topics. More recently, while residing at St. Anthony’s Villas, Steve enjoyed making new friends and engaging in discussions about military history and other stimulating shared interests.
Steve is survived by his five children and their spouses, Kristin, Jeffrey (Amy), Scott (Jessica), Bradley (Amy), and Susan (Michael), as well as his 11 grandchildren - Hayden, Blake, Parker, Brynn, Hudson, Nola, Charlotte, Henry, Millie, Emerie, and Hailey. His family finds strength and solace in the thought that Sue and Steve are reunited again and probably planning a trip to the mountains to catch up.
The family invites you to celebrate Steve’s life and legacy on Tuesday, May 14, 2024 at Our Lady of the Lake Roman Catholic Church, 312 Lafitte St, Mandeville, LA 70448 from 10:30 am to 12:00 noon, followed by Mass at 12:00 Noon.
