Walter Lawrence O’Rourke entered into eternal rest on Thursday September 28, 2023 at the age of 77 surrounded by his loving family. Survived by his beloved wife, Evelyn who he met at Kingsley House in the Irish Channel. Together they raised 4 children. He was the proud father of Debra (Steve) Piglia, Denise (late Gerald) Larousse, Dena (Vic) Taylor, Walter (Karen) O’Rourke and his devoted pet Ellie Mae. He has 7 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.
Native of the Irish Channel in New Orleans, LA and a long-term resident of Schriever/Houma for the past 25 years, Walter was a Vietnam Veteran who served in the Navy on the USS Enterprise as an E3 on the flight deck crew. He worked at Union Carbide Chemical Plant for 32 years as an engineer before retiring.
After retiring from Union Carbide and raising his children, Walter bought a farm. Not to raise cattle or grow crops but to cut grass. He loved to put on his headphones and listen to the oldies as his therapy to relax while cutting grass on his tractor. He was a devoted family man instilling hard work, discipline, service, and the love of family to his children who are all nurses. He will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him.
Private service held by family on October 6, 2023 at Grace Funeral Home, Covington, LA.
