

Longtime Moffat County resident, Almon “Al” Lee Durham died surrounded by his family on Thursday, July 21, 2022 at Memorial Regional Health. He was 94. A graveside funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, August 6, 2022, at the Durham Family Cemetery, 3075 CR 37 in Hamilton. A potluck for family and friends will be held at 1:00 p.m. following the service at the Hamilton Community Hall. Table service and beverages will be supplied.
Almon Lee Durham was born the son of Harry and Olive (Van Tassel) Durham Sr. on January 26, 1928 in Craig. Al spent his childhood in Hamilton and attended grade school at Waddle Creek. He graduated with the Moffat County High School class of 1946. Following high school, Al honorably served his country with the United States Army.
Al started working at a very young age. He began by helping his family on the Durham ranch. He went on to work at Yampa Mine at Hayden Divide. After many years, he transferred to the Relief Canyon Gold Project in Lovelock, Nevada. He ended his career at the Farmington reclamation project in Farmington, New Mexico. Throughout his life, Al enjoyed traveling across the United States with his wife and family.
On January 26, 1951, Al married Mary Jeanne Osborn. To this union, three children were born. The marriage ended in divorce after several years of marriage.
On December 20, 1972, Al married Barbara “Fay” Heintz. The couple shared 49 years of love and marriage together before Fay’s passing in February 2022.
In his spare time, Al enjoyed working in his yard, listening to country music and watching car races and hockey. One of his favorite past times was sitting on his porch and waving to all of the kids who were walking to school. Above all, Al was a devoted husband and loving father and grandfather. He will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege to love and know him.
Al is survived by his children: Raymond (Starla) Durham of Hamilton, Cheryl (Kendall) Peed of Hayden and Kathleen (Jeff) Mitchell of Craig; three step-children: Sheryl Harvey, Pam (Lyle) Gerber and Vickie Johnson; and one brother, George Durham. He is further survived by 10 grandchildren, 19 great-grandchildren, one great great grandchild, 8 step-grandchildren and 9 step-great grandchildren.
Al was preceded in death by his wife, Fay Durham; five siblings: Dorothy Williams, Harry Durham Jr., Edna Schrader, Avis Self and Betty Knight; and his parents.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions be made in Al’s memory to St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital in care of Grant Mortuary.
