David Samuel Walters Sr. was born October 4, 1945 in Wichita Falls, Texas the first born son of Roy Samuel Walters and Ethel Fern Sommers. David graduated from Nucla High School in 1963 and joined the US Army September 4, 1964. David served during the Vietnam Champaign from 1965 to 1967. David met and married the love of his life, Mary June Hall on July 30, 1967 in Craig, Colorado. David raised 4 children: Debbie, Michaela, Cindy and David Jr. David fought a number of battles in his life. First to serve his country, second to raise his children, third to preserve his family and finally to preserve his life. David accepted his wings November 14, 2019 at 11:11 p.m. surrounded by his family at the VA Medical Center in Grand Junction, Colorado. David was preceded in death by his parents, his granddaughter, Amy Bevel and his great-grandson, Lane Cullen. David is survived by the love of his life, Mary Walters, his daughters, Debbie (Lynn) Belleville of Craig, CO; Michaela Walters of Sarasota, FL; Cindy (Jason) Keene of Craig, CO; and his son, David Walters Jr. of Olney Springs, CO; his sister Edith Kinderknecht; his brothers Dale Walters of Grand Junction, CO and Jack Walters of Fruita, CO; his grand children Kris (Ashley Esau-Warren) Bevel, Darren (Brandy Grubbs) Cullen; Kristen (Colt) Troutman, Aby Sack, Evan Walters, Alanna (Michael) Cagle, Lakota Walters; his great-grandchildren Nickolai Cullen, Karen Cullen, Liam Bevel, Josie Cagle, Hope Cagle and Letty Franks. David will be dearly missed by his friends and family. Services will be December 7th at 11:00 am at the Open Range Cowboy Church (26 LeBlanc Rd, off County Road 103) with military services at the Craig Cemetery at 12:00 noon, Reception to follow at the VFW at 1:00 p.m.
