Genevieve Ellen Garcia was born one of 9 children to David and Mary (Martinez) Fresquez on October 22, 1949 in Del Norte, Colorado. She spent her early childhood in Del Norte before moving with her family to Denver.
On March 20, 1967, at the age of 17, she married the love of her life, Bennie Garcia in Raton, New Mexico. The couple later renewed their vows at the Minturn Catholic Church on October 23, 1977. To this union, four sons and a daughter were born. Genevieve was a devoted wife and loving mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. When she wasn’t raising her family, Genevieve enjoyed drawing and writing poetry.
For many years, Genevieve never cut her hair. She always used to say, “Never cut your hair, because your hair is like the vail of the Virgin Mary. If a female cuts her hair, the Virgin Mary cries.” Genevieve will always be remembered for her devotion to her faith and her beautiful family.
Genevieve is survived by her five children: Timothy (Shevaun) Garcia of Craig, Daniel (Lisa) Garcia of Portland, OR, John (Debora) Garcia of Espanola, NM, Jesus (Michelle) Garcia of Las Vegas, NM, and Nichole (Michael) Romero of Penasco, NM; one brother, Vern Fresquez of Rifle, CO; and her beloved aunt, Terry DeHann of Avon, CO. Genevieve is further survived by 9 grandchildren: Destiny Garcia, Xether Garcia, Serenity Ennis, Trinity Garcia, Joseph Garcia, Natasha Romero, Bennie Garcia and Infinity Garcia; and 11 great-grandchildren.
Genevieve was preceded in death by her grandparents, Frank and Ellen Martinez; parents, Dave and Mary Fresquez; husband, Bennie Garcia; granddaughter, Keoma Baca; grandson, Michael Romero Jr.; and seven brothers.
