She was born on March 4, 1936 to Russell & Zelma (Zimmerman) Ellis in Craig, Colorado. She grew up with her siblings - Claudia, Marilyn, Dale and Donnie - as the family raised livestock in the valley and started a creamery business near Ridgway, Colorado.
Rusty graduated from Little Snake River Valley High School in 1954 and married her high school sweetheart, John "Tom" Cobb on October 16, 1955.
After their marriage, Tom and Rusty settled down in Savery, where they built their life together as ranchers and raised three children, Christy, Cindy and Jack.
Rusty had a true passion for serving her community and always went above and beyond in leadership and stewardship positions in Snake River. Rusty served as a 4-H clothing leader for sixteen years and the Savery Savers Community Leader for six years. She was also the clothing and dress revue superintendent for a number of years.
For Rusty, the Carbon County Fair was an annual highlight. Over the course of 40 years, she only missed one fair - when Tommy made her go on a trip to Alaska with him. Taking her children, then her Gilroy nieces, and finally her grandchildren to fair allowed her to always be involved in one of her favorite activities.
In addition to her involvement in 4-H and the county fair, Rusty chaperoned numerous FFA trips to Washington DC Leadership Conference, Canada Fishing Trips, and Wyoming State Fairs.
Rusty's commitment to her community extended to serving on various boards, including the first TV, ambulance, and mosquito boards. She served on the Carbon County Leader’s Council as both the president and secretary. Her contributions played a crucial role in enhancing the community's well-being and quality of life. Her dedication was also pivotal to the growth and development of the Little Snake River Museum.
Tom and Rusty traveled extensively and wintered in Lake Havasu, AZ for over 30 years, but as much as she enjoyed traveling, Rusty also loved being home.
During their 68 years together, Rusty and Tom welcomed children, grand-children and great-grandchildren, all of whom deeply loved and will greatly miss her.
Rusty's legacy of community service, leadership, and love for her family and home will continue to inspire and impact the lives of those who knew her.
Rusty was preceded in death by her parents Russell & Zelma Ellis, sister Claudia Herold, brothers Dale and Donald Ellis, and daughter, Christy Stocks.
She is survived by her husband Tom Cobb, sister Marilyn Gilroy; children Cindy Cobb and Jack (Diana) Cobb; grandchildren Bo (Kristen) Stocks, Kody (Codey) Stocks, Stacy (Brandon) Perry, Corby Cobb, Brice Reid, Ashley (Aaron) Dishman, Jacquelyn (Chet) Harvey, Tyson (Hailey) Cobb; and great-grandchildren Kash, Kaylee, Katelyn, Kase, Colt, Cooper, Nike, Keegan, Ellie, Kyson, Izzy, Stratton and Rosaleigh.
A memorial service will be held February 12 at 1 p.m. at the Valley Community Center in Baggs with a graveside service to follow.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Christy Stocks Community Fund at PO Box 105, Dixon, WY 82323
