Ruth Hutton took her final breath surrounded in love. That was her. Everyone loved her, and she was very giving of her love in return. She was 87. Ruth fought hard for her independence her entire life but was unable to live alone for many years. Ruth’s last residence was The Doak Walker House at Casey’s Pond in Steamboat Springs, CO, where she lived for the past year and a half. Ruth was born on the eastern slope in Cope, Colorado to Tobias and Emily Herman. Ruth had four siblings, Tillie, Robert, Betty, and Delbert. The family moved to Hayden in 1945 when Ruth was a teenager. Ruth married Carl Sjostrom in 1948 and they had four children together: Daniel, Donna, Annette, and Stanley. Carl and Ruth worked hard on the farm supporting their family, but it wasn’t enough to make ends meet. So that is when Ruth started a lifelong career as a waitress. She was proud to be a waitress and enjoyed being around people. In the fall of 1971, Ruth changed paths. She remained in the food service industry for most of her life. She was well-known as a waitress, not only for her work ethic, but for her quick wit and sense of humor. In 1973, she moved to her home in Craig on Thompson Hill where she lived until 2013. She married Jim Hutton in 1974 and they were married for 20 years until his death. Ruth is survived by a big family. Her four children: Daniel and his wife Soha. Donna and her husband Tim. Annette and her husband Stan. Stanley and his wife Robin. Ruth has 10 grandchildren. Timothy Bertram (and Jen) , Shannon Koppenhafer (and Brad), Michael Bertram (and Jessica), Amber Beaver (and Jason), Jill Booth (and Kyle) Kezia Zuber, Kaleb Zuber, Tobi Sjostrom, Emri Sjostrom, and Emma Sjostrom. Ruth has 18 great grandchildren and 6 great great grandchildren. Ruth is also survived by her siblings, Emily O’Tillia Harper, Betty Plane, Delbert Herman (Laurel), and her sister-in-law Norma Herman, along with many nieces and nephews. Ruth was preceded in death by her parents Toby and Emily Herman, her husband Jim Hutton, her brother Robert Herman, and her grandson Eric Sjostrom. And yes, she was also preceded in death by all her many Chihuahuas she loved so very much. Ruth loved life and always made the most out of every situation. She wasn’t afraid of hard work. Her hands were always busy, whether it be gardening, carpentry, crafting, etc … she never stopped. And Ruth loved to give … If you don’t have a piece of her handiwork, you just simply weren’t in the right place at the right time. Ruth Hutton … Mama, Grandma, Sister, Auntie, Friend. Loved life. Loved well. There will be a Celebration of Life on Saturday April 27th at 1:30 PM at The Haven Community Center in Hayden Colorado.
