He was preceded in death by his parents and one sister, Barbara Anne Rice.
Burd was a veteran of the United States Marine Corps.
Even after he retired in 2024 from Keystone Steel Mill, Burd never quit working. He worked at Tiny Boat Nation in Belleview with his nephew where they would make and refurbish boats. He was a cabinet maker at Roecker’s Cabinet in Morton, and he had previously worked as a mason for the state of Indiana.
Burd loved woodwork. While he loved gardening, fishing, and camping, he truly loved his kids, grandchildren, and the rest of his family. He was a Chicago Cubs fan and loved baking, grilling & cooking.
A gathering celebrating Burd’s life will be held at a later date where military honors will be performed.
