

Born October 10, 1926 in Montauk, Missouri to Lester Levi and Virginia Ella (Ervin) White, he married Louise James on October 29, 1949 in Salem, Missouri. She died April 8, 2019 at the age of 88 in Peoria. He also was preceded in death by his parents; one son-in-law, Richard Whitby, Jr.; three brothers and four sisters.
Surviving are four children, Linual (Alice) White, Anita Whitby, Teresa (Bill) Haller and Linda (Larry) Hansen, all of rural Metamora; thirteen grandchildren; twenty-five great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; one nephew, Vester White of Oklahoma and a niece, Tina Hoff of Missouri.
He was a United States Army veteran of World War II and was stationed in Japan during the occupation at the end of the war.
He worked at Caterpillar, Inc. as a machinist for 31 years, retiring in 1980.
Harry loved hunting and fishing, which were both his passion in life. The big question Harry asked anyone and everyone when he was out and about was, “Do you fish?” If they said yes, he replied, “I’ve got the perfect spot to go to down at the “Lake of the Ozarks.”
His funeral will be at noon Friday, August 15, 2025 at Preston-Hanley Funeral Homes & Crematory in Creve Coeur. Pastor John Plunkett will officiate. Visitation will be one hour before the funeral. Burial will be in Glendale Cemetery in Washington, with military rites accorded by the United States Army.
