She was born on May 27, 1926 in Green Bay, Wisconsin to Anton and Agnes (Kocha) Lafek.
Surviving are two children, Mary Whitledge and Joanne Miller, both of Peoria; one grandson, Joshua Rugh of Pekin; two great grandchildren, Skylar Rugh of Pekin and Brennon Rugh of Washington and two sisters, Kathy Mauger of Springfield and Elaine Maloney of Green Bay, Wisconsin.
She was preceded in death by her parents and one sister, Barbara Hrubesky.
Helen worked as a secretary on and off throughout her life. She started at Green Bay Public Service in Wisconsin and also worked in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, Chicago and Peoria.
She was talented in many things, including painting, cross-stitching, needlepoint, and painting china. She also enjoyed gardening, antiquing and traveling when she was younger. She was an excellent seamstress and loved making hats.
She was a member of Grace and Peace Lutheran Church in Peoria.
Cremation has been accorded by Preston-Hanley Funeral Homes & Crematory Creve Coeur. There will be no services.
