He was born on September 7, 1960 in Peoria to Lonzel Lamar and Martha (Blankenship) Lawson. His father preceded him in death.
Surviving are his mother, Martha Dontje; one son, Lonnie Lawson, Jr.; two grandchildren, Lonnie Lawson, III and a second grandson he was looking forward to meeting early this winter; three sisters, Joy (Mark) Reiter, Jane (Ron) Sebring and Brenda Warren; three nieces, Melissa (Rick) Nieders, Linda (Andy) Simpson and Jeannette Watts; two nephews, Bobby (Becky) Hill and Arthur Warren; two cousins, Shelly Lawson and Leslie Lawson and many other great nieces and nephews.
Lonnie worked in the trucking industry and owned his own food delivery business, “Look What’s Cooking”.
He enjoyed camping, fishing, gardening, and carpentry. He also collected coins, played chess and practiced martial arts.
He will be remembered for his remarkable charm and quick wit with conversation. From a one on one to a room full, he had the ability to capture the hearts and minds of those around him. He would make people feel welcome and had a charitable heart. For most, he was a face you wouldn’t forget, as he had his ways of making his mark on your heart. He will be greatly missed by those who loved him.
Lonnie's family has arranged a memorial visitation to take place from 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm on Wednesday, October 7, 2026, at Peoria Heights Christian Church. Cremation arrangements have been entrusted to Preston-Hanley Funeral Homes & Crematory in Creve Coeur.
