Betty Lou Ballengee, 80 of Sissonville, went to be with the lord on June 23, 2026 after a long illness. Betty was born on August 3, 1945, to the late William J and Imal N Garnett of Charleston. She was a 1964 graduate of Stonewall Jackson High School and later Carver Career and Technical Center in cosmetology.
Betty spent years being a stay at home mom. After years of doing friends and families hair at her home she decided to attend cosmetology school. Having her beauty shop attached to her home allowed her to continue to take care of her children and puppies, which were a staple in the shop. Betty worked for 34 years in her own shop in which she formed many friendships over hair and many cups of coffee. Betty was a fantastic cook and loved cooking and baking homemade pies. All that had the opportunity to eat with Betty will attest to how wonderful her food was.
She was preceded in death along with her parents, her brother William (Bill)Garnett of Charleston, ex-husband and father of her children James R Ballengee, Sr and her son James R (Richie) Ballengee Jr.
She is survived by her daughter Tara Fisher and Travis, grandsons Austin and Michael Fisher all of Sissonville, grandson James Ballengee and Mikayla, great granddaughters Oaklynn and Emery Ballengee all of Kenna, sisters Sandra Lilly and Tim of Charleston, Linda Mahan and Tom of Kenna.
Betty has spent the last year of her life at Celebration Villas Assisted Living Facility where she was pampered like a queen. Her therapists were so wonderful in helping her become more independent. Kitchen staff would make her special requests and made sure she had her BLT for breakfast. Her nurses and aides spoiled her to the highest. She was even voted Valentines Queen and received her own crown. I can’t express my appreciation to how she was cared for by all of the staff.
Celebration of Betty’s life will be 12:00 P.M. Saturday, June 27, 2026 at Tyler Mt. Funeral Home with Pastor Travis Jordan officiating.
Gathering of family and friends will be from 11 until time of service at the funeral home.
Online condolences can be sent to the family at www.tylermountainfuneralhome.com
