

Carlton “Bo” Bruce Steele, age 69, of St. Albans, West Virginia, passed away peacefully on June 9, 2026 after a courageous battle with cancer, surrounded by family. Bo was born on April 8, 1957 in Charleston, West Virginia to Bobby Gene Steele and Mary Ann (Elliott) Steele.
He attended Saint Albans High School and went on to work as a coal miner as well as work for Charleston Cash Register for over twenty years. Bo later relocated to Texas where he then built a career as an Industrial Painter until he retired. Throughout his career as an industrial painter, Bo became known as “Smokey” and was known for his unmatched work ethic and dedication, qualities that earned him the respect and admiration of his colleagues and friends alike.
Bo will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered by children: Sarah Stratton (Shawn), Tucker Steele (Jessica), and Abigail Steele (Samuel), siblings: Vicky Gill (John) and Terry Thornton, grandchildren: Jeremiah Stratton, Corban Stratton, Bexley Stratton, Ben Eboch, and Allie Eboch, and nieces and nephews: Gary Gibson II, Kayla Spriggs (Eugene), Tae’Yanna Spriggs, and Nasir Spriggs. He was preceded in death by parents: Bobby Gene Steele and Mary Ann Steele, and niece and nephew: Angelica Saunders and David Saunders.
A memorial service to honor Bo’s life will be held on Saturday, June 13th at 12:00pm at Tyler Mountain Funeral Home, Cross Lanes, West Virginia. The Steele family extends their deepest gratitude to the compassionate staff at CAMC Memorial and Hubbard Hospice House, whose care and kindness provided comfort in Bo’s final days. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial donations be made to Hubbard Hospice House or American Cancer Society.
