

Charles Sam (Sam) Raynes, 86, of Nitro, went home to be with the Lord on Saturday, December 5, 2015, after a long illness at home, surrounded by family, friends and neighbors. He was born October 19, 1929 in Kanawha County, the son of the late Lewis Campbell Raynes and Nellie J. Casto. He was preceded in death by his wife Jessie L. Raynes, four brothers, Lester, Lloyd, Glenn, Clarence and three sisters, Helen Crider, Beaulah Rogers and Doris Taylor, grandson Richard Rinehart II and granddaughter Linsy Gillenwater. He was retired from Monsanto after working in the lab for more than 30 years. He spent the rest of his golden years enjoying life with Jessie, family and friends. He will be greatly missed. He is survived by one son, three daughters and sons-in-law, Donald Raynes of Charleston, Teresa and Michael Miller of Cross Lanes, Susan and John Gillenwater of Nitro, Kimberly (Darlene) and Michael Blizzard of Dunbar, one brother, Ronald of Florida and one sister, Pauline Steele of St. Albans; eight grandchildren, Mary Lee and Mike Frogge, Donald Ruhl, Deahanna Raynes, Amber Rinehart, Jessie Jo and David Thompson, Lacy and Adam Stroud, Michaela Blizzard and Sammy Blizzard; four great-grandchildren, Chelsea Black, Jenna Jo Thompson, Isaac Thompson and Richard Rinehart III; a host of nieces and nephews and great-nieces and great-nephews; and extended family and friends. Funeral service will be held at 2:30pm, Tuesday, December 8, at Tyler Mountain Funeral Home, 5233 Rocky Fork Road, Cross Lanes, WV 25313, with Pastor Rob Van Fossen officiating. Interment will follow in Tyler Mountain Memorial Gardens. Visitation will be held from 1:30pm until service time. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Hospice Care, 1606 Kanawha Blvd, W., Charleston, WV 25387-2536.
