Chester A. "Blue" Nichols escaped the bounds of Earth on February 17, 2016, from a traumatic brain injury and subsequent stroke from a fall at his home on Little Tyler Mountain on November 2, 2015. Born on March 9, 1934 to Dorothy and Chester Nichols he was a lifelong resident on Little Tyler Mountain. Blue was a member of Teamsters Local 175 and worked for 45 years for Blossom Dairy which became Broughton's Dairy Foods as a machine operator/maintenance, on Virginia Street in Charleston. Known as a man that could fix anything he was the "go-to-man" for family and neighbors for many years. Carpentry, plumbing, electrical, small engine repairs or automotive maintenance made him the Jack of All Trades that neighbors loved. His idea of a summer vacation was spending time in his nearly one acre garden visible from Route 62 outside of Cross Lanes. He loved to garden, grow apples, and raise bees and poultry. The farm had cattle years ago and Blue took great pride in having a meticulous yard and gardens of some three acres. Blue was preceded in death by his mother and father, a sister, Edna Rhett, and his son in law, Jerry Yutzy. He is survived by a sister, Barbara June Thompson (Bobbie) and a brother Robert (Marilyn); his devoted wife of 63 years, Charlotte Ann. A daughter, Teresa Yutzy, son Russell and wife Kim, and son Charlie and wife Karen. He was a grandfather to Kayla Yutzy, Missy Powell (husband Josh) and Cody Nichols all of Hurricane, Lance Nichols (wife Zanelle) of Leesburg, Virginia, and Jody Heitzenrater (husband Travis) of Houston, Texas. Blue has 2 great granddaughters, Lyla and Autumn along with 7 great grandsons, Korbyn, Rylan, Wyatt, Jared, Ben, Dante and Hunter. Blue was a man of his time. A hard worker that worked his entire life at one location, a family man married to his high school sweetheart, a man that did not make excuses, who considered it a virtue to meet expectations, and keep one's word. The family would like to thank the staff at Valley Center for all they have done for Blue and for Mom. The nurses, respiratory therapist, speech therapist, and physical therapist, who all tried their darnedest to have a better outcome for Blue. We would also like to thank the entire staff at the Stirlene Wobbe Armstrong Hospice, at Thomas Hospital in South Charleston for their exemplary efforts and care. The family request that, in lieu of flowers, donations be made to Hospice both now and in the future. "At Death we don't leave home, we go home." We thank you friends for being there for our family during the past three months. Funeral services will be at Tyler Mountain Funeral Home, 5233 Rocky Fork Rd. Cross Lanes, WV 25313, at 1:00pm Monday, February 22nd, 2016 with visitation from noon until service time, with Reverend Bob Underwood officiating. Entombment will follow in Tyler Mountain Memory Gardens. Online condolences may be made at www.tylermountainfuneralhome.com.
