Christine E. Parrish, "Criss," joined her parents, Bassil and Mary Snodgrass, in Heaven on Monday, Aug. 3. She was born Oct. 8, 1938 in Jackson County. Criss is survived by three daughters, Tina Wheeler, Cara Adkins and Sammi King. She was blessed with three great sons-in-love, Johnnie Wheeler, Rickie Adkins and Ken King. Now her favorites, her grandkids, Kearsten Anderson, JC Wheeler and Faith King; grands-in-love, Ryan Anderson and Kailynn Wheeler; great-grandchild, Noah Shane; and finally, her adopted daughter, Brenda Smoot. Grandma Criss was the most giving person. She bought something for someone every time she was out. She walked around the West Side for years and prayed for everyone she met. The taxi cab drivers all knew her by name and address when she was a hostess at local restaurants. My mom never met a stranger and was as blunt as can be. After her brain surgery in 1973, she said whatever was on her mind, much to the embarrassment of her daughters (LOL). We wouldn't have it any other way. She was real and loved everyone and tried to bring light to whatever situation she was in. She spent a lot of time in hospitals and constantly praised her King Jesus through it all. She will be missed, but her legacy lives on in those of us lucky enough to have been called hers. A gathering of family and friends will be from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. Friday, Aug. 7, at Casdorph & Curry Funeral Home, St. Albans. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests bringing pet supplies to donate to Kanawha-Charleston Humane Association.
