Edith was born on November 11th, 1929, with her twin sister (Eva Singleton Thompson) to the late Benjamin and Mary Josephine Dues Singleton in Gallagher WV. She grew up in a loving family and enjoyed spending time with her siblings playing in the coal fields, running along the railroad tracks, and stacking piles of leaves for them all to have a turn at falling backward in the pile. At a young age, Edith was a protector of her family not allowing anyone to mistreat her siblings. She attended elementary school at Carter G Woodson in St. Albans which is now known as McKinley Middle School and Garnet High School in Charleston WV.
Edith was the proud mother of nine daughters and three sons. She loved them all as best she could, doing whatever she could to help support them from childhood into adulthood. She was a hard worker; she inherited her work ethic from her parents and retired from Kanawha Janitorial Services with more than 30 years of service. She enjoyed watching her stories (do not call between 12:30 – 2:00 pm) and westerns aka shoot’em ups. She loved spending time with her family and celebrating all of life’s milestones, she enjoyed fishing and long car rides traveling to see loved ones but above all, she enjoyed spending time with the Lord. She was an avid learner of the word, with daily bible study and prayer meetings via the telephone with Noni Desmond and Mrs. King. She was a member of A More Excellent Way Church in Charleston WV.
Edith is proceeded in death by her parents (Benjamin and Mary), and siblings (James, Tom, Benjamin, Mary, Naomi, and Artus). Four daughters (Carolyn Sue James, Edith Brock, Paulatt Perry, Betty Jo Singleton), an ex-husband (Andy P. Bruton), and a husband (Richard Vaten Sr.).
