

She was born July 4, 1925 in Spencer. She attended Roane County schools through ninth grade prior to moving to Kanawha County where she completed public school, graduating from St. Albans High School in the early 40’s. Elsie met and married Robert Junior Knapp in November, 1945 while he was still attached to the United States Army. She worked as a unit clerk for Thomas Memorial Hospital until her retirement at the age of 75. She then devoted her remaining years to St. Albans First Baptist Church, her four children, four grandchildren and one great-grandchild. Elsie loved to work in her beautiful flower gardens practically every spare waking minute. They really showed her passion and joy.
Elsie was preceded in death by her husband Robert J. Knapp.
She is survived by her children, Robert Knapp, Jr., Barbara J. Knapp Douglas, Ronald Gene Knapp and Donald Ray Knapp; grandchildren, David Alexander Knapp, Leslie Abigail Knapp, Christopher Thomas Knapp and Baker Isaiah Knapp; and great-grandchild, Jules Renee Knapp.
A celebration of Elsie’s life will be noon, Saturday, January 27, 2018 at First Baptist Church of St. Albans, 523-2nd St. & 6th Ave., St. Albans with Pastor Joel Harpold officiating. Burial will follow in Cunningham Memorial Park, St. Albans.
There will be a gathering of family and friends from 10:00 a.m. until service time at the church.
