

Gerald Lee Rodgers, 90, passed away peacefully on Sunday, August 23, 2015 at Coastal Carolina Hospital in Bluffton, SC. He is survived by his wife of 69 years, Loretta Mae (Harkins) Rodgers; his sons, Wayne (Debbie) Rodgers of Bluffton, SC and Neil (Kay) Rodgers of Moncks Corner, SC; his brothers, George (Betty) Rodgers of St. Albans, WV and Dallas (Linda) Rodgers of Charleston,WV; four grandchildren, Shane (Leigh Ann) Rodgers, Cullen (Kendra) Rodgers, Shelly (Jim) Burgess and step-grandsons Brent (Traci) Armstrong and Randy (Conrae) Adkins; eight great-grandchildren and many loving nieces and nephews. Preceding him in death are his parents; Willard and Dessie (Fisher) Rodgers and one sister, Madeline (Gilbert) Colley. Gerald was born March 2, 1925 in Charleston, Kanawha County, West Virginia. In 1943 Gerald entered into active service with the US Army; he returned home a decorated WWII American Combat Veteran. In 1946 Gerald married his hometown sweetheart, Loretta, the daughter of Samuel and Louise (Edens) Harkins. He was employed for 33 years with Union Carbide (Institute, WV) and upon his retirement he and Loretta made their way south to Jacksonville, FL where they enjoyed another 32 happy years together. Funeral services will be held on Sunday August 30, 2015 at Tyler Mountain Funeral Home 5233 Rocky Fork Rd. Cross Lanes, WV 25313 with viewing at 1:00 pm and services at 2:00 pm.
