James William Fields

He was born July 29, 1938 in Charleston, the son of Early and Helen Parker Fields. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his wife Shirley , sisters Louise Teel, and Sally Cohen, granddaughter, Danya Beth Pitzer.

Doc was retired from the USPS with over 30 years of service. He was also employed with Chapman Printing. He was an avid sports fan – he loved bowling, softball, watching sports and an avid Atlanta Braves Fan. Doc loved spending time with his family. He loved being called “PawPaw” by so many. He enjoyed his life and loved family outings and a good meal.

He is survived by his children, Mike Fields (Lisa), of St Albans, Missy Sturm (Jimmy), of Charleston, Carolyn Parsons, of Dunbar, Patricia Brannon (Brad), of Elkview, Vincent Pitzer (Robin), of Springfield, OH, Teresa Owens, of Tampa, FL, Donald Pitzer, Jr. (Stephanie), of Nitro, and Lisa Yauger (Joey), of Cincinnati, OH, grandchildren Chad Parsons, Phillip Parsons, Christina Beaudry, Bradford Brannon, Tiffany Shaffer, Eddie Jarrett, Kirsten Ecrement, Rachel Honchorek, Zach Pitzer, Tristyn Pitzer, Jordan Pitzer, Kristofer Lawrence, Celine Yauger, and Lexis Yauger,, 13 great grandchildren, 3 great great grandchildren, and a host of other relatives and friends.

Celebration of Doc’s life will be 1:00 P.M. Friday, August 22, 2025 at Tyler Mt. Funeral Home with Rev. Jerry Vance officiating. Burial will follow in Tyler Mt. Memory Gardens, Cross Lanes.

Gathering of family and friends will be from noon until time of service at the funeral home.
