Linda was born on February 4, 1949 to the late Rufus “Cam” and Sylvia Coffman. She grew up in Dunbar and attended Dunbar High School. Early in adulthood, she worked for Fad Furniture and ultimately retired from Putnam County Planning and Infrastructure, where she made some very special friends.
Lovingly known as “Purple Linda” for her love for all things purple (even her car), Linda was a free spirit with an unwavering positive attitude that she carried to the very end. She found her greatest joy in being a mother and grandmother and treasured her family immensely. Linda’s favorite place in the world was by an ocean, where she will find eternal rest (Mardi Gras Casino was a close second).
Linda is preceded in death by her parents and brother, Charlie Coffman.
Left to cherish her memory and abundance of life’s lessons are her sons, William (Joey) Bess Jr., Gregory Bess, and Mark Bess (Christy); brother, David Coffman (Kathryn); sister-in-love, Judy Coffman; grandchildren, Kelsey, Shelby, Courtney, Dylan, Austin, Angel, Robert, and Brandon; great-grandchildren, Elijah, Kenzie, Haven, Camren, Bostyn, Klayton, and Promise; and a host of special cousins, family, and friends whom she held dear to her heart.
A Celebration of Life to honor Linda will be held at 2:00 PM on Saturday, October 31, 2026, at Tyler Mountain Gardens in Cross Lanes. In true Linda fashion, we ask that you consider wearing anything purple.
