Mary Ellen McGill, 69, passed away Monday, February 11th, at her home after a long illness. Mary was a 1967 graduate of Charleston Catholic High School and a 1972 graduate of General Hospital School of Nursing. There she was known for her hard work and dedication to her patients and colleagues. Mary Ellen was a friend, and mentor. Her invaluable skills as a nurse not only served this community but also the people she was blessed to work with. Although she retired in 2017, she will be greatly missed at the hospital. Mary Ellen’s dedication to her children and grandchildren could be seen by all that knew her. She was an avid reader, loved making anything with chocolate and watching British television shows. She was known for her sewing skills and could always be called upon to make a fabulous Halloween costume. Her admiration of elephants was well known and she was gifted with many over her 69 years. Holidays were her favorite and she loved to celebrate with family. Mary Ellen was one of a kind.

I deeply feel the loss of an old friend. We spent many times in ups and downs in our CCHS school days. Somewhere along the college years, we lost contact. We both fulfilled our goal of becoming RNs.
Our classmates from CCHS '67, would have loved it if she could have made a reunion.
She was missed then and now.
Sincere condolences to To all the family of Mary Ellen Kessler McGill.

Keith and I were so very sorry to hear that Mary Ellen had passed. We were not only long-time Ridgemont -Circle Rd. neighbors-our son, Mike, and Steve brought us together as soccer moms. Even though she worked long, hard hours, she still found the time- and energy- to attend games-both at home and travel. Mom's did more than cheer, you know, we also had the privilege of washing the extremely muddy uniforms late at night after the kids were supposed to be sleeping. Mary Ellen just smiled through it all! Along with many happy memories, I have a WV apron that she made for me- a treasure! She was a woman of many talents- and did I mention her energy! - Laura, Maureen, and Ann- I know she cheered for her girls, too! Keith and I are grateful that she was a part of our lives and left us with many happy memories. Sounds like she left her family with many happy memories, too. Praying that drawing on these memories will help ease the pain in your heart of her loss as time goes by. Keith and I are sending our sincere sympathy.

I am unable to attend the service for Mary Ellen due to a recent surgery but I wanted to express my regret at her passing. Mary Ellen was most acquainted with my son Chris, a long time friend of her late son Steve. Mary Ellen and I interacted over the years due to situations where both our kids were involved and I believe Chris considered her like a second mom. I know, having lost my own mom 2 years ago that her family and friends will miss her very much. She was a kind and caring person.

I'm so sorry to hear this-I saw Mary Ellen about 20 years ago when I was working for a Dr.'s office affiliated with CAMC General. Looks like she leaves behind a well-loved family with many great memories. God bless you all.

I will always remember Mary Ellen for her sweet, loving smile. I knew she was an excellent, caring nurse. My mom was good friends with your family’s mom Mary and I always heard what a wonderful nurse she was as well.
Of course, the whole Kessler family was a big part of the Kyle Furniture family from its beginning.
Please know I am so sorry for the loss of your mother (children) and sister. She was a special person and I’m sure she’ll find a special place in Heaven. Love and prayers to all of you.

I was surprised and shocked to hear of Mary Ellen’s passing. She had only recently left the OR and I had hoped she was enjoying her well earned retirement. I know that Stephen’s passing took a great toll on her life. We spent many an hour together, sometimes well into the early morning putting Humpty Dumpty back together again. I always admired her dedication to her mission as an OR nurse. The hours are long and stressful. The patients (and some doctors) can be difficult to work with. But she always brought the same tenacity to her job every day. She was a helpful co-worker and a trusted friend. I felt flattered that she chose me to help with Stephen’s hip. She will be missed.
May God rest her soul where the Just Repose and May her memory be eternal.

I have many memories of friendship with Mary Ellen...taking our girls to dance lessons together (neither Ann nor Caitlin pursued a professional career in dance!), traveling to Columbus (with Jenean and Tammy) to take the CNOR exam (we all passed! Thank goodness!), driving through a really bad snowstorm so I could get her to the OR to scrub in on a craniotomy on a Gen Div nurse, and our visit to see Ruthie at the Hubbard House. There are plenty more memories, but the most important one is knowing how much she loved her children and grandchildren! She left her most important legacy in them. RIP Mary Ellen. It's comforting that you've been reunited with Stephen.❤️
