Mattie Shepherd Rhodes

Mattie Shepherd Rhodes, 73, of Charleston, WV, passed away Aug. 20, 2015 at Hubbard Hospice House following an extended illness. She was born on March 8, 1942 in Roxana, KY, a daughter of the late Tressie and Emma Collins Shepherd. Mattie graduated from Knightstown High School in Knightstown, Indiana. She retired from Sears, Roebuck, and Co. and was an active member of King’s Way Christian Church in Nitro, WV. She is survived by her two daughters, Matricia (Daniel) Cook of Lexington, KY and Darla (Eugene) Brooks of Charleston, WV; three grandchildren, Jessica (Jarrod) Blaisdell of Fort Hood, TX, Samuel Cook of Ft. Lauderdale, FL, and Cheryl Brooks of Charleston, WV; three great-grandchildren, Zachariah Blaisdell, Gabriel Blaisdell, and Isaac Brooks; four brothers, Clarence, Verlon, Shade, and Roger Shepherd; one sister, Carolyn Shepherd Hennis; numerous nieces and nephews; and a large, extended family. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 51 years, Donald F. Rhodes; two brothers, Lawrence Shepherd and Tressie Shepherd, Jr.; and three sisters, Inez Shepherd Manning, Gerry Shepherd Manning, and Irene Shepherd Bandt. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, Aug. 29, 2015 at 12:00p.m. at Tyler Mountain Funeral Home, 5233 Rocky Fork Rd., Cross Lanes, WV with Minister Ron Wolfe, Pastor Gene Brooks, and Kenny Miller officiating. Entombment will follow in Tyler Mountain Memory Gardens. Visitation will be held prior to the funeral from 10:30am to noon at the funeral home.
