He was born September 4, 1940 in Pemberton, the son of James and Effie Little McVey. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his infant sisters, Drema and Darla McVey.
Melvin worked for many years at the G.E. Apparatus Shop in Charleston. He then worked until his retirement at AEP'S Central Machine Shop in South Charleston. He enjoyed hunting, riding motorcycles and knife making.
He is survived by his wife, Sheril Meadows McVey, sons Chris McVey (Debra), of Cross Lanes, Craig McVey, of Nitro, daughter Diana Gillispie, of Myrtle Beach, SC, and step daughter Lisa (Doug) Calhoun, of St Albans, 12 grandchildren, and 17 great grandchildren, special friend Bill Brown, and a host of other relatives and friends.
Celebration of Melvin's life will be 2:00 P.M. Tuesday, February 25, 2025 at Tyler Mt. Funeral Home with Pastor Jeff Nichols officiating. Burial will follow in Tyler Mt. Memory Gardens, Cross Lanes.
Gathering of family and friends will be from 1 until time of service at the funeral home.
