Mr. Michael Kent Pauley

He graduated from St. Albans High School in 1967, enlisted in the WV Army National Guard and then the United States Army in March of 1969. He served two tours in Vietnam, earning an Army Commendation Medal for Valor. Mike always said his proudest achievement was earning the respect of his fellow soldiers, many of whom became his lifelong friends.

Mike was an entrepreneur at heart, owning a chain of office supply stores in the Eugene, Oregon area and one in Lexington, Kentucky. After returning to West Virginia, he operated the Williams River General Store near Cowen, WV where he enjoyed time with his family at his camp along the Williams River. He also served as Marketing Director for the West Virginia Association of Rehabilitation Facilities. Mike was an explorer his entire life. He was the youngest member of the West Virginia Archaeological Society when he was admitted at the age of thirteen. He and his wife Susan traveled all over the world together, including returning to Vietnam.

Mike, affectionately known as Grampy, is survived by his loving wife of 24 years, Susan Pauley; his step daughter, Amy Atkins (Doug); his grandchildren, Susannah and Nicholas Atkins, who were the light of his life; brothers Keith Pauley (Amy) and Larry Pauley; nephews Joseph, Samuel, Titus, Micah, and nieces Sarah and Joy; and his chocolate lab Sophie, who was his constant companion.

A gathering of family and friends will be held from 6:00 pm - 8:00 pm, Tuesday, February 20, 2018 and a celebration of Mike’s life will be led by his brother Keith Pauley on Wednesday, February 21, 2018 at 11:00 am at Casdorph and Curry Funeral Home,110 B Street, St. Albans, WV 25177. Burial will follow at the Donel C. Kinnard Memorial State Veterans Cemetery, 130 Academy Drive, Dunbar, WV 25064. Mike was a life-long supporter of veterans and was grateful for the care and support provided by the VA. Mike would have wanted any donations to be made on his behalf to the WV Veterans Home in Barboursville, WV 512 Water Street, Barboursville, WV 25504
