Norma was one of six children born to Charlotte and Leonard Jeffries of Grafton. She graduated from Kanawha Valley School of Nursing in 1950. Thoroughly enjoying her work with patients, she retired from CAMC Memorial after more than 30 years of service as a registered nurse.
She and Tom Linger (deceased) were married for 64 years. They enjoyed being with family and traveling. A majority of time was spent with friends as they enjoyed taking tours and following their beloved Mountaineers to sporting events. Norma was an active member of Reynolds Memorial UMC where she was a member of the choir and participated in many other church activities. Bowling in the Megawatt League at Robin Lanes was a Monday night event for many years. She volunteered as a Christmas bell ringer for the Salvation Army; she was also a volunteer for the American Red Cross. Norma was active in organizations such as the Kanawha Valley Nurses Association, EBHS Athletic Booster’s Club, AARP, and Lion’s Club. The city of Marmet honored her as ‘Woman of the Year’ in 2010 for her volunteer services.
Norma’s true Christian spirit shined wherever she went. Friends, old and new, have commented at what a delight to have gotten to know her and she is truly missed.
Surviving are daughter Mary and husband Bill Young of League City, Texas. Grandchildren - Joshua of Houston and William and wife, Jana, of League City. Also surviving are her sister, Janice, brother, James, and several nieces and nephews.
