

Raymond McNeal Smith Jr. 77, of Rand passed away May 8, 2026, surrounded by his children. United States Army veteran Raymond was a true jack of all trades. He worked as a coal miner and was also employed by BMI Janitorial Service, Contemporary Gallery, the City of Charleston, and the State of West Virginia, retiring after 37 years of dedicated service.
Raymond was always a hardworking man. Always made you laugh and smile. Never met a stranger and would help anyone in need. He loved gospel music and church events, and he was well known as the church’s cake baker.
Raymond was preceded in death by his wife Ella Smith, son Raymond M. Smith, III, parents Raymond M. Smith, Sr. and Isabell Smith, and sisters Gloria Walker, Elmira Hunter and Louise Webb.
Raymond leaves to cherish his memories; Ella Smith- Bailey, Maurice Smith (Christina), Michael Smith (Leslie), Uncle Sylvester Smith (99), and Aunt Ruth Ella Harris, sister Ruth Jones (James), and brother James Smith (Sandy), a host of grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and family.
Celebration of Raymond's life will Saturday, May 30, 2026, at 1:00 P.M. at Tyler Mt. Funeral Home with Rev. James Patterson officiating. Burial will follow in Tyler Mt. Memory Gardens, Cross Lanes with Military Graveside Rites conducted by St Albans VFW Post 6418 and American Legion Post 73.
Gathering of family and friends will be from 11:00 am to1:00 pm at the funeral home.
