

He was born and raised in Indore, WV. A 1964 graduate of Clay County High School. He was a Vietnam Army Veteran, he worked 35 years as a cable splicer for C & P Telephone/Bell Atlantic/Verizon. He was a lifelong New York Yankees fan.
He is survived by his loving wife of 59 years, Sharon, children Leslie (Amos) Hamrick, of Cross Lanes, Lisa Ramsey (Shannon Schmitt), of Nitro, and Jon Ramsey, of Cross Lanes, 6 grandchildren, Zachary Stamper, Hunter Stamper (Kendall Trainum), Jacob Hamrick (Samantha Mendes), Mason (Peyton) Hamrick, Sydney Hamrick, Jackson Hamrick (Addy Smith) and his grand-dogs Wally, Charley, Olive and Ivy. He is also survived by brother in law William Canfield, brother in law Leonard (Sandy) Canfield, and sister in law Deloras (Russell) Triplett.
Known to many as “Pop” he devoted himself to shuttling his grandchildren to school, practices, and games always their biggest supporter. His love of baseball shone especially bright when he helped build The Brandon Matthew Sneed baseball field at Nitro High School while his son Jon played there.
He was preceded in death by his parents Jeannie and Kermit Ramsey, grandmother Izora “Nugget” Brown who also raised him after his mother’s death, brother Kermit “Bill” Arthur Ramsey, sister in law Janet Canfield, in laws Edward and Bessie Canfield, nieces Kelli Canfield Gilfilen and Kim Canfield and his special granddog Happy.
He will be remembered as a man of quiet strength unwavering devotion, and deep love for his family. His legacy, lives on in the heart of all who knew him and his memory will forever be cherished.
Celebration of Pop’s life will be 2:00 P.M. Monday, September 15, 2025 at Tyler Mt. Funeral Home with Pastor Rick Canfield officiating. Entombment will follow in Tyler Mt. Memory Gardens, Cross Lanes with Military Graveside Rites conducted by St Albans VFW Post 6418 and American Legion Post 73.
Gathering of family and friends will be from noon until time of service.
